With the especially for the Rotunda created work “114 KW” by Siegrun Appelt, the Schirn continues an exhibition series, in which works by artists such as Ayse Erkmen, Costa Vece and Olafur Eliasson were displayed.
“114 KW” transforms the Rotunda in the entrance area of the Schirn into a glistening bright arena. 57 spotlights with a total output of 114 kilowatts are circularly installed in the inner space and shine upon the paved stone floor. When entering the accessible space of light, visitors as well as pedestrians are confronted with an extreme concentration of light energy, which virtually becomes a physical experience. Blindingly bright, perceptible as heat and audible through the permanent sound of the transformers, the artificial light unfolds its materiality. The arrangement of technical equipment like distribution boxes, control gear and cables are a component of the production.
